Ok, i’ve never had, and never made shepherd’s pie before. But tonight, i was feeling adventurous! i found a recipe that looked simple and unscrewupable as possible..tweaked it to my own taste a bit and viola, perfection! …almost… i set the timer to go off halfway thru so i could turn it around and make sure everything was even. That’s when i saw…the blob! That’s right kiddies..also known as the killer gravy. It was oozing up and over what was supposed to be the gorgeous crusty potato topping! What could i do? Only what i do best when things don’t go my way, POUT! Which resulted in a lovely bout of petting and comforting from Sir, which made me feel better . Now, what i figure i did wrong was i forgot that baking things brings out their natural juices and i may have added a tad too much water after mixing in a packet of brown gravy. Also, i didn’t use a 9×13 pan. i used a casserole dish that was a touch smaller. So, it wasn’t as purty as i’d imagined, but the taste was fabulous! Sir has never eaten peas that i’ve seen, and has told me He does -not- like them. Well, i wanted them in this dish and figured He could eat around em if He didn’t like them, lol. He did! He ate them..and asked for seconds! He ate ev ery bit i gave Him, which is the best compliment! All in all, i’m very pleased. i know what i did wrong and will fix it next time…because, oh yes!..there WILL be a next time! 

Here is the recipe i based mine on. i omitted the beef broth and worcestershire sauce, used dried onion (cuz that’s all i had) and didn’t measure a thing, lol. i also ised instant mashed potatoes on top, but good quality ones that would hold up. i also spruced up the potatoes by mixing in some cheddar and mozzerella, a touch of carlic salt and pepper, viola!

So, basically, i love food..love to cook, -most- of the time. That’s what i intend to write about..also just to keep a kind of food diary for myself.
